Baghdad explosion: 30 dead, 60 injured

According to information received from the Baghdad Health Authority, an explosion occurred in the Al-Vahilat public market in the Sadr region, east of Baghdad.

According to preliminary determinations, 30 people were killed and 60 people were injured in the explosion that took place the day before the holiday.

It was reported that the Iraqi authorities were continuing their search and rescue efforts and that the number of dead and injured could increase.

It was noted that the Ministry of Health has mobilized all its staff in hospitals for post-explosion interventions.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi also ordered the arrest of the commander in charge of the attack zone and an investigation into the attack.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the Baghdad attack.

On the other hand, President Berhem Salih, in a statement on his Twitter account, said civilians in the Sadr region had been the target of a nasty attack ahead of the party.

“They don’t want the Iraqi people to know security and happiness even for a moment.” Salih said they will not stop until terrorism is eradicated.
