Czech women seek redress for forced sterilizations

Lawmakers in the Czech Republic are considering a new proposal to compensate hundreds, if not thousands, of women who have been sterilized without their consent.

Most of the proceedings were carried out in the 1970s and 1980s, and most of the women were from the country’s Roma minority.

Now the activists hope they are on the verge of winning a long-standing battle for financial reparations.
