The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced the workforce statistics for April 2021.
According to TURKSTAT data, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 13.9% in April 2021. The unemployment rate increased by 0.9% compared to the same month of the previous year.
Looking at the figures, the number of unemployed in Turkey increased by 275,000 in April 2021 to reach 4.511 million people.
The number of employed people decreased by 193,000 people in April 2021 compared to the previous month to 28 million 56,000 people, while the employment rate fell by 0.4 points to 44.2%.
ONE IN FOUR YOUTH IS UNEMPLOYED
According to TURKSTAT data, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate among the young population aged 15-24 increased by 0.1% to 25.6%. The youth employment rate remained at 32 percent.
Looking at this data, it becomes clear that one in four young people in Turkey is unemployed. On the other hand, the participation rate for this age group increased by 0.8 points compared to the previous month and stood at 43.0%.
ATTRACTIVE WORK RATE INCREASED TO 27.4 PERCENT
The inactive labor rate made up of time-related underemployment, potential labor and the unemployed increased by 1.7 points compared to the previous month and became 27.4% in April 2021. While the combined rate of time-related underemployment and unemployed was 19.9%, the combined rate of potential labor and unemployed was 21.9%.
