Minister of National Education Özer: There is no school where all classes are closed

Mahmut Özer, Minister of National Education, answered questions from NTV Ankara’s intelligence chief Ahmet Ergen about the agenda during a live broadcast.

Making important statements on face-to-face education, Minister Özer announced that no schools have been suspended so far due to the corona virus case.

Noting that teaching was interrupted in around 200 classrooms, zer said that if PCR tests were negative at the end of day 7 in classes where 2 cases were detected within 10 days, the quarantine request of 14 days could be waived.

The questions put to Minister Özer and the answers received are as follows:

” WE HAVE SET UP A CALL CENTER RELATED TO THE EPIDEMIC PROCESS ”

After a one-and-a-half-year hiatus, face-to-face teaching has resumed in schools. We left three weeks behind, can we get your assessment of the latest situation?

On September 6, we launched 5 days of face-to-face training at all levels. We took a lot of precautions before we started. We have prepared a guide with the Ministry of Health. We coordinate the whole process with the Ministry of Health. We have implemented an electronic tracking system in our schools. It is something that is being done for the first time. We are now making decisions at the school level. We built this system. Currently we have 87 thousand 108 schools in our system including the state. We have a total of 71 thousand 320 schools. We have about 1 million classrooms. The status of vaccines and tests are instantly checked in each school. We have set up a call center for the epidemic process.

Are there any schools that are interrupting face-to-face teaching because of the affair?

Currently, none of our 71,000,320 schools have been closed due to a case or close contact. Of course, we have closed courses. The numbers are changing. There are classes that take a break. If the trend of cases is on the rise, this increase is reflected in the classes. If the first week is negative in the closed class, the education is returned.

“CLOSED CLASS WILL RETURN TO EDUCATION IN 14 DAYS”

How many teachers are vaccinated? Did these numbers increase after the transition to face-to-face training?

On a voluntary basis. In closed classes, teaching is delivered after 14 days. As of September 17, the rate of teachers receiving a dose of vaccination was 92%. The vaccination rate among teachers is higher than the Turkish average.

“There are POSITIVE TEACHERS WHO DO NOT SHOW SYMPTMS”

There is a mandatory PCR for unvaccinated teachers. Is there a teacher determined to be positive by PCR test?

There are teachers who do not show symptoms but have a positive PCR test. There were positive unvaccinated cases with no symptoms. Today, our schools continue to be the safest environments. Our case and class based approach will provide a significant advantage in keeping schools open face to face until the end of the term. The numbers can go up. The number of closed classes will increase. It won’t stop at 200.

“DOUBLE TEACHING HAS BEGUN IN NEARLY 200 SCHOOLS”

A dual education option was offered to avoid overcrowded classrooms. How many schools have doubled their education?

Nearly 200 schools have switched to dual education. This is not a common situation, some schools have switched to dual education. There is nothing like having land and not building a new school. We cannot find any land in Istanbul Esenyurt for the construction of a school. In some places the students of this school have gathered in some schools. The problem of land management is not today’s problem.

” THERE IS NO SYSTEMATIC APPROACH LIKE WEEKEND EDUCATION ”

Will there be training on the weekends?

We don’t have a systematic approach like training on weekends. We produce solutions in problem-oriented schools.

“NO TESTS FOR STUDENTS WITHOUT PARENTAL AGREEMENT”

Can you provide details on the Department of Health’s randomized PCR screening in schools? Will these analyzes continue on a regular basis?

Students will not be tested without parental consent. No samples will be taken for PCR testing on the noses of students.

Will the powers granted to the provincial directorates of national education increase to make provincial and school decisions?

Our provincial directors of national education are fully authorized to work-study in overcrowded schools, to shorten class hours and to reduce the number of days of face-to-face training per week.
