President Erdogan had a phone conversation with Russian President Putin

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to the statement made by the Communications Chair, during the meeting, regional issues, in particular measures aimed at improving Turkey-Russia relations and developments in Afghanistan, were discussed.

During the meeting, President Erdoğan and Russian President Putin expressed their condolences to the Turkish and Russian crews who lost their lives in the Russian plane that crashed during the fight against the Kahramanmaraş fire during the week last.

Stating that Turkey and Russia attach great importance to cooperation in the energy sector, President Erdoğan said that they expect an increase in gas flows from TurkStream, one of the signs of cooperation in this area. .

Referring to the developments in Afghanistan, President Erdoğan said that they can continue to assume their responsibility for the security and operation of the Kabul airport in the future, provided the appropriate conditions arise; He said that this responsibility that Turkey will pursue will help to eliminate the concerns of all parties, especially the international community and the Afghan people.

Expressing their wish for a smooth transition in Afghanistan, President Erdoğan stressed that it is important that the Taliban do not repeat their past mistakes, act with comprehensive understanding towards all ethnic groups and keep their promises.

President Erdoğan said the new government to be established in Afghanistan should be inclusive and representative, reflecting the diversity of the Afghan people.

Expressing that the start of talks on peace and security issues between the Taliban and the leadership of the Republic in Kabul brings hope, President Erdoğan said that the channels of dialogue with the Taliban should remain open and that a gradual commitment should be followed instead of an approach based on hard conditions.

President Erdoğan said they welcome the moderate messages given by the Taliban for now, but that the actions of the Taliban, not their words, will shape the process ahead.

President Erdogan and Russian President Putin have also agreed to coordinate the relationship to be developed with the government to be established in Afghanistan in the coming period.
