The first convoy of Afghan soldiers returned to Turkey

Turkey evacuates its soldiers from Afghanistan.

About a week before the end of the deadline given by the Taliban until August 31 for the withdrawal of foreign military forces from the country, Turkey began to evacuate its troops.

With the decision, around 500 Turkish troops in Afghanistan will return to Turkey.

Turkish Airlines (THY) announced that the first evacuation plane, which also carried Afghan soldiers, had taken off from Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, with 345 people. The plane will land at Ankara Esenboğa Airport at 11:45 am, then continue to Istanbul.

It has been reported that two more evacuation flights are scheduled with planes departing from Istanbul and these flights are demand dependent.

There will be no direct flights between Afghanistan and Turkey during the evacuations; It is specified that they will come to Turkey via Uzbekistan, Tajikistan or Pakistan.

Meanwhile, presidential spokesman İbrahim Kalın, who appeared on NTV’s broadcast, said the operation to evacuate the Turkish soldier from Afghanistan would be completed within 24 or 36 hours.

Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar also announced his intention to complete transfer activities as soon as possible.
