In the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, the United States searched for al-Qaeda, the stateless jihadist group led by Osama bin Laden that has become a global terrorist network.

Over the past 20 years, al Qaeda has unleashed attacks around the world and inspired the emergence of other militant groups.
