The Competition Authority has announced that the WhatsApp update, which includes data sharing, will not come into effect for any user in Turkey, including users who approve of it.
In the declaration of the Autorité de la concurrence, it was recalled that a decision of provisional measure had been taken by the Autorité on January 11, 2021, after the update of the conditions of use and the confidentiality policy. of WhatsApp, including data sharing, and their request for approval by their users.
The following was stated in the statement that the planned update by WhatsApp has been postponed globally until May 15, 2021:
“After the injunction issued by the Competition Authority and the investigations carried out, we have been informed that the said update, which includes data sharing by WhatsApp, will not come into effect for any user in Turkey, including users who approve of it. “
WHATSAPP: WE HAVE NO FINAL DECISION
On WhatsApp, “We don’t have a final decision that the update will not cover Turkey yet. We continue to negotiate with the relevant authorities for the measures to be taken, ”came the statement.
If the update is canceled, with this step Turkey will be directed to the European region which has obtained an exemption.
WHY DID HE CREATE A DISCUSSION?
The extension of the controversial WhatsApp nondisclosure agreement expired on May 15.
WhatsApp has changed its nondisclosure agreement to provide more data to work accounts.
Although end-to-end passwords are protected in personal messaging, messages created with work accounts would be handled by the company.
WhatsApp had demanded the ratification of this new contract all over the world, with the exception of certain countries. Turkey was one of the countries where approval was required.
